When I first tried keto, I thought I’d be eating bunless burgers and sad little egg cups for the rest of my life.
Turns out I was very wrong.
Keto can actually be delicious, filling, and simple, even if you’ve never counted a net carb in your life. You just need the right recipes to start with.
So I put together this list of the easiest keto meals for anyone just getting into it. No weird ingredients. No 12-step processes. Just real food that happens to fit the macros.
Side Note: If you’re also trying to eat healthier in general (not just low carb), here’s my guide on how to eat healthy without losing your mind.
1. Garlic Butter Steak Bites

These are stupidly easy and they taste like something from a steakhouse.
Cube up a cheap cut of steak, sear it in butter and garlic, and you’re done in under 10 minutes. Perfect for a night when you don’t want to think too hard about dinner.
2. Egg Roll in a Bowl
This one’s a keto classic for a reason.
You get all the flavor of an egg roll (ground pork, cabbage, ginger, soy sauce) without the wrapper. It comes together in one pan and reheats beautifully for lunch the next day.
3. Baked Salmon With Lemon Butter
Salmon is basically the beginner’s best friend on keto. It’s naturally low carb, high in healthy fats, and hard to mess up.
Just squeeze some lemon over it, add a pat of butter, and bake. 15 minutes and dinner is done.
4. Cauliflower Fried Rice
If you’re missing rice, this is your answer. Riced cauliflower soaks up whatever sauce you throw at it, so it tastes way more indulgent than it should.
Add scrambled egg, a splash of sesame oil, and any protein you have on hand.
5. Zucchini Lasagna
Swap the noodles for thin zucchini slices and you’d honestly never know the difference. Layer it with ricotta, meat sauce, and mozzarella like you normally would.
Pro tip: salt your zucchini slices first and let them sit for 10 minutes. It pulls out extra moisture so your lasagna doesn’t turn watery.
6. Chicken Alfredo With Zoodles
Creamy, rich, and ready in one pot. Swap regular pasta for zucchini noodles or even shirataki noodles if you want to keep things extra low carb.
7. Bacon Wrapped Chicken Thighs
Two ingredients that were basically made for each other. Wrap chicken thighs in bacon, bake until crispy, and you’ve got a meal that tastes way fancier than the effort it took.
8. Keto Taco Salad
All the toppings, none of the shell. Ground beef, cheese, sour cream, salsa, and lettuce instead of a tortilla.
This is one of those meals that doesn’t feel like a “diet food” at all.
9. Cheesy Broccoli Casserole
A comfort food staple that happens to be keto friendly. Broccoli, cheddar, cream cheese, and a little garlic baked until bubbly.
It works as a side dish or a full meal if you add some shredded chicken.
10. Avocado Egg Salad
This is my go-to for a lazy lunch. Mash avocado in with your egg salad instead of mayo (or use both) for extra healthy fat and a creamier texture.
11. Pork Chops With Creamy Mushroom Sauce
Sear the pork chops, then make a quick pan sauce with mushrooms, cream, and a splash of chicken broth. It looks like a restaurant dish but takes maybe 20 minutes.
12. Buffalo Chicken Dip
Not just for game day. This one’s rich, spicy, and satisfying enough to eat as a full meal with celery and cucumber slices for dipping.
13. Shrimp Scampi With Spaghetti Squash
Garlicky, buttery shrimp over roasted spaghetti squash instead of pasta. It’s lighter than it sounds but still feels indulgent.
14. Stuffed Bell Peppers
Ground beef, cauliflower rice, and cheese stuffed into bell peppers and baked until soft. Easy to make ahead and reheats really well for meal prep.
15. Keto Fat Bombs
For when you need something sweet. These little bites usually combine coconut oil, cocoa, and a low carb sweetener, and they help curb cravings without knocking you out of ketosis.
Tips for Starting Keto as a Beginner
A few things I wish someone had told me before I started:
- Don’t fear fat. It’s your main energy source now, so butter, olive oil, and fatty cuts of meat are your friends.
- Watch hidden carbs. Sauces, dressings, and “healthy” snacks are often loaded with sugar.
- Keep it simple at first. Stick to recipes with 5 to 7 ingredients until you get more comfortable.
- Expect the keto flu. Some fatigue and headaches in week one are normal as your body adjusts. Drink extra water and add electrolytes if you can.
- Meal prep on Sundays. Having 2 to 3 of these ready in the fridge makes weekday decisions so much easier.
FAQ
How many carbs can I eat on keto? Most people aim for 20 to 30 grams of net carbs a day, though this varies by person.
Do I need to count calories too? Not always, but if your weight loss stalls, tracking calories alongside carbs can help you see what’s going on.
Can I eat fruit on keto? Small portions of berries are usually fine. Most other fruits are too high in sugar for a strict keto diet.
How long until I see results? Some people notice changes in water weight within the first week. Fat loss and bigger changes usually take a few weeks of consistency.
Wrapping Up
Starting keto doesn’t have to mean bland food and constant cravings. Pick two or three recipes from this list, get them into your weekly rotation, and build from there.
